bee resilient
From all the beautiful quotes about bees, the amount of quotes and its significance made me very enthusiastic. I chose “the bee is the doctor of flowers”. Knowing that not only the bee is the doctor of the flowers but in fact this little animal is the doctor of us all. Bees are very very important . These little creatures are crucial to pollinate flowers and make them produce fruits and vegetables to feed us. Without bees much of our food will disappear.
Though the population of bees has shrunk dramatically the past years we are very happy that in the area we live, and especially on our finca, there are a lot of bees. I guess this might be caused by us running our finca ecologically with really zero pesticides. I love the little creatures and I love their work and their products. At this moment, the temperature is rising, their busy work, busy bees as they are, is going from flower to flower. The oranges have their beautiful white blossoms now, but also the almonds have their rose colored blossoms now. It is indeed a spectacular view. And not to forget all the herbs with their expressive and natural colors. The bees love them deeply. This reminds me of the song “the birds and the bees”, very vintage but still available on Spotify. Some things are timeless.. Like bees:).
Because of our love for nature, the beautiful and appropriate place we live in, but also because of the countless number of people that ask me to start beehives, I started thinking about this. Since you probably know that we have started and keep on starting new projects, you also need to limit yourself sometimes because of a lack of applicable skills. Next to the amount of time we have available.
So this led to approaching beekeepers. Other people that can enjoy the finca and there will also be much reciprocity. We ourselves need the bees and the beekeepers need land to put the beehives. At this moment I have one beekeeper interested, the same guy from whom we buy our honey at the La Nucia market. Let us hope this will result in a good collaboration for the future. Not only our future.
What a dream this would be to have beehives on our finca. Such prosperity for everyone.
Last week we had the great honor to attend an event in our neighboring village Xirles. With 170 guests my husband and I were the only outsiders, people from abroad. Our local Spanish network is very important to us, we love being part of the Polopian community. Their appreciation to have us with them made us very happy. Together with them we enjoyed an afternoon with local dishes and in the end we all got this small pot of honey from the region. What a great gift! Being proud and grateful to live here we certainly will enjoy this nice gesture.
In my youth, especially when I was a little girl I often got confused between bees and wasps. I got stung by both varieties. Children have their sudden movements when playing outside during Summer. It can easily happen. In the meantime I learned that these tiny species are completely different and have their own goals. Tip: A good solution when got stung, get some soil and rub it over the place. The irritation will disappear very quickly.
Let us hope we will all enjoy a good Spring and Summer with a lot of bees.
Be kind to each other, enjoy the good things.
Warm regards,
Mónica
